PROBLEM

In our world today, there is a stigma attached to women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Also, female high school students don’t have enough awareness of the different professions there are in STEM.
This might be because:

  • Their schools aren’t educating them enough about the different unconventional STEM-related careers there are

  • They are not made aware of experiential opportunities such as hackathons and robotics competitions to expose them to diverse activities they can participate in

As a result, they end up feeling intimidated by a career in STEM or that areas in these fields don’t fit their interests. Thus, they end up going for non-STEM-related programs.

LOW-FIDELITY WIREFRAME FOR INSPIREHER

SOLUTION

To combat this issue, I decided to develop a mobile application called ‘InspireHer’ to educate Grade 11 and 12 female students more about the various diverse professions there are in STEM that may fit their interest. The app does this through:

  • Mentorship
  • Networking
  • Career-educational content

WHAT IS INSPIREHER?

InspireHer is a mobile application that matches Grade 11 and 12 female high school students (mentees) with industry professionals (mentors) in STEM-related fields. Through this, these students can easily connect with professionals and learn more about what they are doing in the industry.

This app provides a chance for them to start creating their network at an early age, get better insight into the various STEM professions out there and assist them to have a better idea of the career they want to pursue after high school.

My goal is to provide as much career advise as possible to the students to assist them as they transition into their next stage in life.
